In this study, the investigators created a novel strategy for evaluating the relevance of interactions utilizing a Bayesian hierarchal combination framework. The approach is applicable for the scholarly study of interactions among genes or between genetic and environmental factors. Chris Amos, PhD, senior author of the paper stated, ‘These findings may be used to develop models that include only those interactions that are highly relevant to disease causation, permitting the researcher to remove false positive findings that plague modern study when many a large number of factors and their interactions are suggested to play a role in causing complex diseases.’ The model evaluates ‘gene by gene’ and ‘gene by environment’ factors by looking at specific DNA sequencing variants.Median plasma triglyceride amounts reduced from 164 to 122 mg per deciliter in the fenofibrate group and from 160 to 144 mg per deciliter in the placebo group. Clinical Outcomes The annual rate of the primary outcome was 2.2 percent in the fenofibrate group, in comparison with 2.4 percent in the placebo group .
